Growing up in Ottawa, Canada, there was only one thing that really intrigued Kaela Faloon from a young age, and that was dance. Her parents say that she started dancing as soon as she physically could, and that passion has never wavered. She was always the entertainer in the family, putting on shows and dance routines at any function or gathering she could. She was born to perform, but despite this, Faloon’s real journey in dance did not begin until she was 11, when she finally enrolled in lessons, far later than most. Once she began, however, there was no turning back.
“I honestly never knew that I could turn my passion for dance into a career. I always loved dance and hoped for it to somehow loop around and be a part of my life, but it was never a profession that I had dreamed to pursue because I had no role models or mentors around me who had successfully achieved it. However, I began to understand that dancing professionally was a possibility, and that all my goals and aspirations were more than attainable through hard work and determination,” said Faloon.
Now, Faloon is a celebrated dancer in her home country of Canada and internationally, working with chart topping musicians like Mya, Meghan Trainor, Mia Martina, Nick Jonas, and many more. Her days are a constant whirlwind, and that’s just what she likes. Whether rehearsing for a big show, working with her dance company Sensual Heeling, or on set for a music video, Faloon spends each day living that childhood dream.
One of Faloon’s most successful music videos was fellow Canadian Shawn Mendes’ “Something Big” in which she was a principal dancer. Released in 2014, Mendes was a new, young, emerging artist at the time of the shoot, and Faloon felt he had an incredibly successful career ahead of him.
“I love that Shawn continues to write all his own music, despite his success. At such a young age, he is setting the example and expectations for the younger generation, to follow in, to understand that being invested in your work, and in your career is valuable, in order to receive the accolades you desire,” said Faloon.
In addition to collaborating with Mendes, the video allowed Faloon to work with choreographer Scott Fordham, who has worked with many superstars throughout his career. Faloon has been one of Fordham’s most reliable dancers throughout the years, working on many notable projects together, including Grammy Winner Nelly Furtado’s “Waiting for the Night” music video, Juno Winner Anjulie’s Canadian tour, Bobby Bazini “Bubblegum” music video, Smashing Satellites “Hounds” music video, Jessica Lee “Beautiful” music video, Fordham’s “Limitless” production, and so many more.
